Canon Edmund Mullins R.I.P.

Canon Edmund Mullins R.I.P.

Of your charity please pray for the repose of the soul of

Rev. Canon Edmund (Eddie) Mullins.

Canon Mullins died on Wednesday 27th November 2019 aged 95 years.

He follows his brother the late Bishop Daniel J. Mullins just a few short weeks after his death.

Born in Ireland on 28th November 1924, Canon Eddie was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Cardiff on 28th May 1950.  He served in the parishes in Cardiff, Briton Ferry and Port Talbot.  In 1987 with the establishment of the Diocese of Menevia, Canon Eddie remained at St. Joseph’s. Then in 1989 he moved to Holy Name, Fishguard where he served out his active ministry until his retirement.

In 1977 Canon Mullins was appointed Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Port Talbot and brought with him a wealth of social and spiritual activities to the parish. He formed a parish choir, many catechetical groups and his priority was ensuring that the sick people of the parish were visited pastorally and spiritually. Canon always had two curates  to help him in the parish and he always made sure that they too were on a rota of visiting the sick people of the parish.

He was a great father figure to all his curates ensuring that they always had substantial food at all meal times and were well cared for. Canon Mullins’ love of music not only give the parish wonderful music throughout the liturgies, he also shared his great talent of playing the accordion at many functions in the parish. One fond memory of Canon Mullins that parishioners often reminisce about is on Christmas Day after the morning Mass parishioners would gather in the parish social club where Canon would play the accordion and entertain the parishioners.
