On January 12, the feast of St Aelred of Rievaulx, an election was
held to determine the new Abbess of Holy Cross Abbey at Whitland.
The community of nuns of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance
elected from among their own, and Sister Joanna Harrison became
Reverend Mother for an indefinite period. As Abbess she success Mother
Christine Wood, who lead the community for 16 years before stepping
down in December in 2021.
Mother Joanna was born in 1956 in London, entered Whitland in 2005 and
made her solemn profession in 2011. At the time of her election, she
was Novice Mistress.
