During Mass on 29th June Rev. Sister Elsie Leung was solemnly professed as a nun of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (Trappists) at Holy Cross Abbey, Whitland. The monastic community were joined by several monks and priests of the order, who had travelled from St Samson’s Abbey on Caldey Island and Mount Saint Bernard’s Abbey at Coalville. In addition, many friends and ecumenical guests of the community attended, along with former chaplain Fr Michal Hart. The Abbess, Rev. Mother Joanna Harrison, received Sr Elsie’s vows and clothed her in the monastic cowl and veil. This was witnessed by the Father Immediate of the community, Abbott Joseph Delargy of Mount Saint Bernard. It was a great day of joy for the community who opened up part of the monastery for all the guests to celebrate the occasion with a festal lunch.
